Don't you think doctors should have to work as nurses before
I think all doctors should have to work at least a year as a nurse before becoming a doctor so that they have more respect for nurses.
Doctors have no clue what we really do. I suggested years ago in the ED that I work that for one day the doctors would do what we do. Of course that never occurred. What a more compassionate and caring person a physician would be if he/she walked just one mile in my shoes.[/img]

I'm still a student. Tell me about your stories between doctors and nurses.
i feel they realy should it would give them more insight a to what we as nurse go through on a daily basis, then the patients would have a better sense of trust with all persons in the medical field. i think they should also take a penmanship class before becoming doctors, this would at least reduce errors made on medications.
should doctors be nurses before becoming doctors
YES THEY SHOULD
There's a feature article in this month's Sigma Theta Tau magazine, nursing leadership on our current U.S. Surgeon General, Richard Carmona.
Turns out he went from army medic, to RN, to MD, and now Surgeon general!
He says in the interview (several times) that in his opinion all MD's would be better physicians if they spent time as a nurse prior to becoming doctors.
He really gets it. Unfortunately, most MD's don't.
I work with all surgeons, and man, are they just jerks. There are only a couple of nice ones. When I deal with internal med docs, etc, I am so surprised by how nice they are to us (most of the time). What a pleasant change!
They should, at least, have a required course about nursing and what we do. Another good course for their curriculum would be Bedside Manner 101!
No they should not.Coz that waht makes a nurse special & different from a doctor!!! I don't know where u guys work but where i do we rarely face a problem with the doctors.Actually they r very respectfull & they trust our judgments more than the resident doctors.& if we ever encounter a problem with any dr we take it to management & believe me they get their (u know what ) whooped!!!
Don't you think doctors should have to work as nurses befor
I worked with a resident who was working as a nursing assistant while in college. He was wonderful. He had respect for the nurses and treated the patients very well. Many times when I was working off tours (evenings, nights) when staffing is short, he wouls lend a helping hand to transfer patients, change them when incontinent, etc..
DOCTORS WORKING AS NURSES FOR A YEAR?
Well, I don't think they should have to give up a WHOLE year, but if it could be worked into their residency program that maybe they had to work as a nurse for a month, maybe up to 3 months, I think that would be a reasonable request.
I think a year is a bit too much to ask, tho, considering it takes them so long to get out of school
Maybe it could also be judged on the resident's attitude, also....smart asses get the whole 3 months, the nicer more considerate ones could get off with just doing a month. lol..just kidding, I know that would never work.
