Case Management
How many nurses out there are actively pursuing their careers outside of hands on care in case management?

Would you ever go back to the floor?

Case Management
I started in case management about 3 years ago. I was injured on the job was not able to be cleared for patient care in my facility. I stumbled upon a job for discharge planner in our Skilled Nurseing Facility. I really like that aspect of nursing so I took a course in Case Management and then took the ANCC for RN Case Manager. I have since moved to our acute care facility as a UR Case Manager and I am not real happy in this situation but our hospital will be changing our department to all case managers with a case loak of 20-25 and we will be retrained by outside experts. I am excited.

Do I miss patient care? Absolutely. I am hoping that our new case management model will fulfill my need for patient contact as each patient will be assessed on admission ect not just for utilization purpose. I still have the desire to do patient care but my limitations will not allow me to do that.
