Nursing Moms Warned About Codeine (CBS4 Miami)
The government is warning nursing mothers who take codeine to watch their infants for increased sleepiness or other signs of an overdose. The Food and Drug Administration's warning is based on the death of a nursing infant in 2006 whose mother was given codeine for episiotomy pain. Testing showed the mother's body converted the codeine to morphine more rapidly than in other people.
