The price of inadequate numbers of registered nurses to meet patient care demands in hospitals is unacceptably high. On any given day, if demand exceeds the number of available nurses, patients will be diverted elsewhere or, worse yet, they will be accepted into the organization and overextend the nurses who will care for them.
