PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island needs 2,000 more nurses, and the nursing shortage will worsen in the coming years unless steps are taken to help more students enter the profession and to attract top nurses into faculty positions to train them, said several lawmakers, educators and health-care leaders at a State House hearing Wednesday.
