For 63 years, Rosemarie Nicholas' mother, Mary Locurcio, battled the demons of schizophrenia at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove. Locurcio was there in the beginning, when the sprawling psychiatric hospital had 3,200 patients and functioned as its own self-contained town.
