Less than two months after his retirement, accountant George Porter of Houston grew so bored that he began to pass the time aligning forks in his silverware drawer. Porter, 62, soon volunteered as a bookkeeper for the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the suggestion of his wife, Misty, who works there as a nurse practitioner.
