Tired of the politics and bitchiness in nursing?
I have only been qualified for a year and a half. I struggle to just get through the shifts at the moment as I have to deal with so much back stabbing and name calling. I have the problem of isolation bullying and we all know that this is awful.
I am a young nurse, 25. All of my colleagues are mid forties to retirement age. I often cannot see myself being a nurse in a short time. I hate the general culture of nastiness and downright bad prevailing over good.
In this area, it is a real small town mentality. We all know each other and gossip, real or false spreads fast. I have been the target of rumors which are false and management are not interested in doing anything about this. Have you ever been in this situation? Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Yes, I've been there. There are people we will work with that can be nasty, gossipy, and cliquey. Sometimes the supervisor helps, othertimes it seems they would rather not be bothered.(I've been an LPN for 10 years and just got my RN license and have worked in all kind of environments) One principle that helps: you can beat people like that by not being like them.

Thanks so much. I have actualy decided that I want to leave this environment and that life is too short to be miserable.I plan to work agency for a while until I find the right position. At least I will be rewarded with high rates of pay as agency and not get involved with all of the politics etc.
I have had some really evil things done to me as I am quiet by nature. It seems like the nastier you are the more you are respected. what is this teaching our future nurses? Sad

i was going to suggest that instead of giving up on nursing, you find a different job. i'm glad you did, and hope this is working out for you.

i have worked in a bullying environment, and it's difficult. one time i found a different job, after trying to make it work for a few years. another time i was able to work through it, and the bullying slowed down a lot. it depends on a lot of factors, but in the end you have to protect your own soul. sometimes this mean another position in a different company.
