I'm not sure anyone will know but I'll ask anyway...
With all of these different degrees, (AN, ADN, BSN, ETC.) I am more cofused than ever after reading some posts.
I graduated with a B.S. in psychology (and instead of getting my masters right now) I decided that I wanted to become an RN. So I am taking classes to get my ADN. Everyone is sayng how a BSN is higher up than an ADN...Does anyone know if it matters that I already have a Bachelores of Science (even if its in psychology)?
nope it matters not.
adn = associate degree in nursing you will be an RN
bsn = bachleors of science in nursing you will be an RN
the pay rate if you are lucky will be anywhere from 25 whole cents more for your bsn over an ADN. unfortuantley you are in a wierd boat you will have a bach degree but in nursing world you will be an ADN. because you didnt graduate with BSN. even though you have all the credits to have your BSN.
Jhaydon,
It depends on where you are and what you want to do in nursing. There is a definite need for all nurses and many employers who will take you with an ADN. But, as more of them strive for increased excellence and Magnet status they are pushing for more BSNs. Even though you have another degree which is to be commended it is about increased nursing knowledge (i.e. advanced patho, assessment, etc). I started seeing this when NIH came out with study regarding decreased morbidity rates related to advanced degree of bedside nurse. Just take it one step at a time. Finish your ADN work a bit and start back part time for the BSN. Should not take you long since you are already half way there.
