Just sixteen nurse-midwives attended the founding meeting of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), held in Kansas City in November 1955. Today, ACNM marks its 50th Anniversary, and celebrates the vision of the organizations' foremothers. The work begun by those 16 women has resulted in decades of education, research and service to women and babies. Now, thousands of
