Cult Killer on MSNBC
The "Cult Killer" documentary will be shown on MSNBC in the United States starting this Sunday (May 4, 2008).
Here is the program description from msnbc.com:
Quote:

In January 2005, Rick Rodriguez, the one-time heir apparent to a Christian cult called The Family, fatally stabbed his former nanny and then shot himself dead. He left a chilling videotape alleging that the sexual abuse he had suffered as a child at the hands of members of the group was too much to bear.

Update: I watched this today (May 8). Other than some editing for nudity and profanity, it is almost the same as the one broadcast on Channel 4 (UK) on August 21, 2006. Unlike the ABC News 20/20 version broadcast on February 2, 2007, they kept the original narrator (Juliet Stevenson).

TVF pick-up a first for MSNBC
09/05/08

UK-based factual distributor TVF International has inked a sales deal with US news channel MSNBC, marking what it claims is the cablenet's first non-US acquisition.

The agreement covers broadcast rights to Cult Killer (1x47'), a documentary about Children of God murderer Rick Rodriguez, produced by UK indie Wag TV.

"Cult Killer is exactly the type of documentary MSNBC is looking for," said Michael Rubin, VP of MSNBC documentaries. "It gives incredible access to an American story and insightful storytelling, and is heartbreakingly true."

Leila Monks, head of sales at TVF, said that the sale "further demonstrates the international appetite for UK-produced programming and shows that well-produced, edgy one-offs still have a home across the Atlantic."

Cult Killer was quickly becoming one of TVF's most successful titles ever, she added, with the US sale following a series of others in territories including the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Latin America.
